Jim Buck

James M. (“Jim”) Buck III was born and raised on the Main Line. He lived first in Devon, and was baptized at St. David’s where his family were members. When Jim was 8, the family moved to Haverford and joined Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church where Jim was confirmed and became a Youth Deacon during his high school years. He attended Haverford School, from which he graduated in 1977, and went on to study U.S. History at Princeton University, focusing on the American South where his mother’s Alabama family resides. Jim was always active in music and the performing arts at home and school, and chose to pursue acting (briefly!) for the year following his college graduation. In 1982, he began a career in finance, first as a banker with J.P. Morgan in New York; then, beginning in 1990, with the venture and private equity firm his family founded, TDH Capital in Radnor. Today, his activities center on: TDH Capital’s investments in private companies and funds; various for-profit and not-for-profit boards (including that of his family foundation); the Philadelphia Phillies baseball club in which the family has held a longstanding partnership interest (and on whose  Consulting Board he sits); and significantly, on family. Jim and his wife, Lin, started coming to the Redeemer shortly after they were married in 1992, and have since raised three daughters – all of whom were baptized and confirmed at the Redeemer, and who are now in their late teens and early 20’s, making Lin and Jim near “empty-nesters.” In his free time, Jim continues to sing (his a cappella group, The Tonics, is now in its 29th year), play “country club” sports (tennis, golf, paddle tennis), and travel with his family and friends.
